Julie Dillon is a musician, artist, and activist based in San Francisco. She recently completed her first solo album, "It is Late", a collection of "gritty waltzes, whispered stories, and sassy rock songs" culled from her personal and vicarious life experiences. In addition to fronting two bands and self producing her recording projects, Julie is the founder of mamaelephant.org, a website dedicated to music and revolution that provides a cyber meeting place for non-profit music organizations.
Whether belting out renegade rock tunes with her band, jimmy, or
playing the more intimate songs that make up her solo repertoire,
Julie has an unassuming yet commanding stage presence that exudes
absolute joy.
"Dillon's ability to manipulate
the pitch of her voice is reminiscent of the wonderfully exciting
tension reserved for such musical giants as bands like the Pixies,
Nirvana or Modest Mouse, all fronted by male vocalists. Dillon's
unique talent to employ beautiful melody with soul shaking volume
seems especially appropriate and refreshing from the lesser visible
but obviously equal important female perspective." --Ryan
Wesierski, Narnack Records
".....this isn’t
the misty-eyed girl pop that artists like Jewel are trying to pass
off as contemporary folk music. Dillon’s lyrics aren’t
sweet. They’re honest, introspective, intimate, and above
all, as real as she is." --Bill Picture, SF Examiner,
Sept. 2002
On "It Is Late," the atmosphere
is wistful, tired but grateful, knowing and funny, an attitude backed
by Dillon's tuneful but world-weary voice. Definitely an album that
will grow on you with time.”
